‘Gotham’ Star Ben McKenzie Swears Season Two Is Gonna Be Better

If you’re one of the many viewers who stopped caring about Fox’s Gotham this past season, the show’s Det. Jim Gordon, Ben McKenzie, has good news for you — season two is going to be right up your alley. OK, maybe “right up your alley” isn’t the best phrase to use regarding a show about Batman (RIP Thomas and Martha).

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, McKenzie basically fesses up that the show dropped the ball halfway through season one. “I think we made a mistake relatively early on in trying to introduce a villain and take care of that villain in one episode,” he told the magazine, “We should’ve never done it.” He also put part of the blame on the start-and-stop production schedule of the show, noting that six new shows were added to the episode order during its initial run, causing a number of hiatuses.

Fortunately, he assures us, season two is going to be full of things the fans want:

“The audience really wants to understand who these people are and live with them, sit with them and enjoy them. Whether they’re evil or good, they are entertaining. So that’s what we’re doing in season 2. [It’s] really kick ass. I think it’s exactly what the fans want to see.”

We have less than a month to find out if he’s telling the truth, as season two of Gotham premieres on Fox on September 21.
