Remember That Time Jennifer Aniston Was Completely Replaced On An Episode Of ‘Friends’?

Shock! Outrage! Disbelief! Those are just some of the emotions Friends fans are feeling about the revelation that there’s an episode of the iconic show in which Rachel Green was played by someone other than Jennifer Aniston. And, according to a fanatic who just spotted the mistake, there’s no going back in the knowledge that cast members were sometimes replaced in pivotal scenes.

Jordan D’Amico, who’s been watching the show in a spree of excitement for the umpteenth time (because it is very, very watchable) was enjoying season 9 (episode 15)  of the show when he spotted the mistake. It happens right after the credits, when Rachel runs in to one of the Friends’ inexplicably huge and affordable apartments to tell Joey that he’s got an audition with a famous actor played by Jeff Goldblum. But that set-up isn’t as important as what happens next. When Joey and Monica start freaking out about whether the famous actor’s co-star monkey will be at the audition, the screen pans back to Rachel and…she’s not there. But someone else is!

Check it out:

Of course, D’Amico points out, we know that our favorite shows have stand-ins to help the cast out. Some shows have recently even been accused of using split screens to achieve the effect of two characters sitting together when the actresses playing them are allegedly in a feud. But those are other shows. As D’Amico says, knowing that Jen (of Brad and Jen! Of The Rachel!) was replaced by a plaid-shirted stranger is a betrayal that opens up a whole can of worms:

…for some reason, seeing this girl, likely a staff or crew member, has shaken me to my very core. What’s real and what isn’t? How many times are our “Friends” actually talking to someone else? Where will the lies end? Why is Gunther’s hair so bright? Could Janice hear herself talk? How did Monica afford that huge Manhattan apartment? How much has Ross spent in legal fees?

Hope he’s doing well since Aniston dropped the bomb that she was almost replaced entirely in February.

Of course, this news has completely rocked the world-wide-interwebs, where people (you, me) are beginning to demand answers. Is this just the tip of the iceberg of lies that Friends has fed us? There’s only one thing to do now: cancel all your plans, turn on your TV and watch the show until you spot another mistake. You’re not just doing it for yourself; you’re doing it for all of us.
