Jenny McCarthy Is Furious At Charlie Sheen For Not Being ‘Upfront’ About His HIV Status

Jenny McCarthy may be a frequent visitor in Playboy’s centerfold feature, but she’s also the butt of vaccination jokes. McCarthy has made no secret of her anti-vax stance, and (speaking on her SiriusXM Dirty, Sexy, Funny radio show) she ties those beliefs to her anger at Charlie Sheen following his admission of being HIV positive earlier this week on Today.

Sheen has already come under fire from his former goddesses (including Bree Olsen) and other former lady friend, Lisa Ann. Now McCarthy is taking aim because Sheen failed to disclose his HIV status to his Two and a Half Men romantic interests. That group of actresses just happens to include McCarthy.

Boy, is she angry. Actors are supposed to declare communicable diseases before their physical encounters with co-stars, and McCarthy says Sheen didn’t say jack to her or anyone on set:

“I don’t even know how to feel about that. I’m like, ‘Wait a second. If I have to be upfront about herpes, how could you not be upfront about HIV? I look back and I’m like, ‘Okay, that would have been some valuable information.’ Look how many people have played his love interest on the show. I mean, not that you can obviously get it through kissing, but still that’s a big deal.

“Playing his love interest on the show, even back in the day, I go, ‘Ick! That’s not fair. It’s scary.’ I have sympathy for him because, you know, he’s sick and it’s awful, but man he’s going to have some major accountability with many people in his life.”

Indeed, McCarthy has a point. She discloses her cold sore-causing affliction to any prospective employer, so she cannot fathom why Sheen would keep such a potentially dangerous secret from women. Sheen’s manager responded to McCarthy by telling People that Sheen wasn’t HIV positive when he appeared alongside McCarthy on the show. That’s probably not too reassuring to her.

McCarthy also says that her anti-vax stance leads her to be hyper-vigilant about her own health. She claims to have made all of her boyfriends get tested for HIV, which speaks to her fastidiousness over health. But anti-vax or not, most people would agree that Sheen should have said something to his co-stars. It sure sounds like he kept the secret from almost everyone.

For a refresher, here’s one of McCarthy and Sheen’s romantic scenes on Two and a Half Men. She appeared on eight episodes of the show and ended her arc in 2011. Sheen revealed that he was diagnosed with HIV four years ago, which indicates a possible period of overlap between when he caught the virus and when he interacted with McCarthy (and many other onscreen love interests).
