John Mulaney Opened Up About The Cancellation Of ‘Mulaney’

Save for the occasional tuna-y appearance as George St. Geegland and stand-up gig, we haven’t heard much from John Mulaney since the cancellation of Mulaney, his much-hyped Fox sitcom that proved to be a dud. And that’s putting it kindly. Reviews were damning — the Critics Consensus on Rotten Tomatoes reads, “John Mulaney, we know Jerry Seinfeld. Seinfeld was funny. Mulaney, you’re no Seinfeld” — and the show was canned after only 13 episodes.

Vulture caught up with Mulaney — whose new special, The Comeback Kid, comes out on Netflix this Friday — about whether he was relieved his multi-cam comedy was put of its misery, talking to Jerry Seinfeld (“He was like, ‘You starred in and wrote and produced your own network show. Well, it’s me and you and only a few other people who have done that.’ He was saying, be happy with that accomplishment — or that is an accomplishment”), and if he read the reviews (“sure”). Would he do it all again?

If I had to go back, I would have made the show I made because I wanted to make that show. I wanted to get it out of my system. It wasn’t like if I could go back in time I’d do a single-cam. (Via)

In more important news:

Nah, I never eat tuna. It’s a real diss to send someone tuna.

If someone sends Mulaney a Stefon made out of tuna, he might explode.
