These New Teasers For ‘American Horror Story: Hotel’ Give Room Service A New Meaning

After the mixed reviews that accompanied last year’s American Horror Story: Freak Show, many have been hesitant about giving Ryan Murphy one more go-around with his horror anthology series. (Admittedly, I may be one of those doubtful fans.) The announcement of Lady Gaga’s addition to the cast almost assures more musical numbers to be featured on the series. And while that was a gimmick last season that felt…well…gimmicky, there are a couple details about American Horror Story: Hotel that give me hope.

The new season looks to head back to one single environment — like Asylum and Murder House before it — where the majority of the story will play out. As we have learned from horror classics like The Shining, a hotel can — in and of itself — be one creepy motherf*cking character and that will most assuredly help the new story on the small-screen. Also, the few new faces being introduced in the fifth season — Lady Gaga included — may actually offer a fresh reboot to a series that has begun to feel stale. Oh, let’s not forget that Lily Rabe is playing serial killer Aileen Wuornos. That’s…intriguing.

All this leads me to the new American Horror Story: Hotel teasers released earlier today. While not much is truly revealed in these clips, we are given a glimpse of two characters that will be featured in the new episodes. The peek at some new set pieces pretty much make two things perfectly clear: One, hotels are never not creepy. And two, always make sure the naked freak without eyes stays away from your room. Words to live by, really.
