The First Monster From The Election-Themed ‘American Horror Story’ Is A Creepy Elephant

Ryan Murphy is on a nice hot streak.

The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story won a billion Emmys, Feud just concluded its entertainingly campy first season, and the most recent installment of American Horror Story, “Roanoke,” was arguably the show’s best. He’s already hitting home runs when doubles would do, but for his next project to be successful, he’ll need to sock a 500-foot grand slam.

As previously reported, the “completely batshit” theme for American Horror Story season seven is the 2016 presidential election. You might have heard of it. Murphy teased that Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton won’t be “characters on the show” (they may still appear as themselves on TV, though) because “I’m interested in doing is not just the obvious, single-minded point of view but rather express all sides of that equation.” Including the creepy elephant.

Murphy shared the concept art for some kind of blood-lipped elephant — the symbol of the Republican party — on Instagram today, writing only, “American Horror Story Season 7 tease.” It’s an effective tease for two reasons: 1) the sketch looks like if Twisty the Clown from Freak Show had a baby with a toothy elephant, which is terrifying for many reasons, and b) now I want to see the Democrat’s donkey. There’s no way someone — maybe one of those clowns in Congress — doesn’t get called an “ass” during the season.
