The irreverent Amy Schumer‘s career knows no bounds. She actually found herself in the position to “turn down The Daily Show,” which is a bragging point for the ages.

Like most comics, Amy comes under fire for her often controversial subject matter. She often jokes about race, saying, “I love joking about race, it’s like my favorite.” In light of recent claims of racial insensitivity, Schumer took to Twitter with a defense. She tweeted, “Put down your torches before reading this so you don’t catch on fire.” Then Amy added the following explanation:

“[I]t so fun for comics. You can call it a “blind spot for racism” or “lazy” but you are wrong. It is a joke and it is funny. I know that because people laugh at it. Even if you personally did not. I am not going to start joking about safe material. And don’t ask that of me. I love what I do and won’t let anyone take that away. I ask you to resist the urge to pick me apart. Trust me. I am not racist. I am a devout feminist and lover of all people. My fight is for all people to be treated equally. So move onto the next person who is more deserving of your scrutiny and not the girl in your corner. Sincerely Amy (a dirty half Jew)”

Schumer isn’t the only comedian who feels the need to explain her material. Jerry Seinfeld recently lamented the PC generation, which he said hurts comedy. Some would counter that Jerry’s jokes aren’t funny enough in the first place, but Amy appears to have found a solid audience. Even when speaking outside of her own routine, Amy is relentlessly brash on a number of subjects. Here’s Amy’s unapologetic tweet, where you’ll find that she’s comfortably owning her material:
