The realm of animated series on television has been pretty crowded when it comes to sheer quality over the past few years. That has been what has kept FX’s Archer from picking up the highest honor of an Emmy award for outstanding animated series, which has always seemed a bit strange considering just how great Archer has been, season-to-season without ever failing. But things have turned around for FX’s plucky Archer, as they’ve finally scooped up an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Series at the 2016 Emmy Awards.
Archer beat out last year’s winner, Bob’s Burgers, for this year’s Outstanding Animated Series Emmy, this being the show’s second Emmy (the prior being Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media – Multiplatform Storytelling for their augmented reality game last year). The episode in question that took home the trophy for them was the season seven opener, The Figgis Agency.
The seventh season of Archer was yet another departure from the norm for them — much like season five’s Archer: Vice — with the gang ran a detective agency in Los Angeles this season, taking heavy cues from shows like Magnum P.I., like, shot-for-shot. Archer producer Matt Thompson seemed excited with the win, even gearing himself up for the inevitable loss he was waiting for, but never came.
“It feels great…I told myself awwww, we lost, just don’t worry about it…but it feels completely different to win.”
Archer has been picked up for another three seasons by FX, which means that it’s not going anywhere for a long, long time.
