Ben Affleck Would ‘Rather Tell The Truth’ In His First Public Comments On His Bill Maher Spat

After weeks of silence, Ben Affleck finally opened up about his heated shouting match with Real Time host Bill Maher. The actor took issue with Maher and fellow guest Sam Harris’s remarks on Islamic violence.

The not-once-and-future Batman talked about the public tirade at a charity event in New York. According to Mediate:

“I think I’d rather tell the truth and say what I believe in and make people unhappy than sort of pretend to think something else to accommodate them and try to be liked. That’s just the way it goes and I don’t think I’m any great champion of anything, but if they’re going to put me on a show, I’m going to say what I think.”

It’s nice that Affleck finally decided to speak his mind regarding the infamous exchange, especially since Maher and Harris already did. But what intrigues me most is what he calls the “Sesame Street argument,” in which “You don’t judge a whole group of people based on the actions of a few.”

This from the guy who makes films depicting all Boston residents as white, Irish Catholic townies with criminal records. “How do ya like them apples?”
