Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad was one of the best series around when it came to callbacks, recurring motifs, allusions and foreshadowing. It’s no surprise that the Breaking Bad spin-off, Better Call Saul, also does this masterfully.
The Easter eggs in Better Call Saul, however, serve a purpose other than just being spectacularly cool. They also help to bind the two shows, and illustrate to viewers at home that Gilligan and Peter Gould are doing their research. Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) is like a big puzzle that’s been taken apart and being slowly put back together on Better Call Saul, and the Easter eggs make up many of the pieces of that puzzle, the details that transform Jimmy into Saul.
Some of these Easter eggs are wide out in the open, while others are hidden in corners for the more observant viewers to find, but they are all a brilliant part of what makes Better Call Saul one of the most exceptional shows on television.
There have been numerous callbacks to Breaking Bad in the series’ first 13 episodes. The ones listed in the video above, however, are the best.
Better Call Saul airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on AMC.
