Did A ‘Gotham’ Actor Just Confirm His Role As The Joker In Season 2?

Since the show’s pilot episode aired, Gotham has egged viewers on to ask a single question aloud: “Will the Joker ever show up on screen?” Considering the number of possibilities dragged before the camera in the first season, a better question would be, “Have we already seen him?” Several episodes contained references to the Clown Prince of Crime, and one character in particular caught everyone’s attention immediately.

Jerome, played by Cameron Monaghan, was immediately pegged by Gotham‘s fans as the show’s version of the Joker. Or, keeping with its “before they were…” thematic, Monaghan’s performance garnered him the distinction of being the most proto-Joker-like character of them all.

Welp, after Monaghan’s Instagram post on Wednesday, many are convinced he’s the one. Besides, as showrunner Bruno Heller told THR back in May:

“We’re going to find out how the hell Jerome, the proto-Joker we met earlier in this season, connects with the Joker as people known him. That’s the big focus of the beginning of the second season. We’re going to tell the story of how the Joker came to be.”

Considering Jerome’s story from “The Blind Fortune Teller,” the show’s sixteenth episode, the character would make for a perfect this-is-where-the-Joker-came-from storyline. And by “perfect,” I mean “totally f*cked up.”
