The New ‘Game Of Thrones’ Trailer Has Fans Hyped For A Long-Rumored ‘Bowl’

[Potential spoilers for Game of Thrones season seven]

HBO knows full well that Game of Thrones fans break down every last second of pre-premiere footage. Sometimes this proves useful, like when a crew member can be seen holding a vitally important weapon, while other times it’s merely an excuse to stare at dragons. The point is, every shot is there for a reason, which is why certain viewers are getting hyped right now.

There’s a lot to consider in the “Winter Is Here” trailer that was released on the first day of summer: Beric holding a flaming sword, Sansa walking through the Godswood, Bran with his fancy new wheelchair, etc. But there’s one proverbial “blink and you’ll miss it” moment that even if you see it, you might not know what’s happening. It happens around 1:20 into the teaser.

That faceless figure is Sandor “The Hound” Clegane in what appears to be the Dragonpit, which hasn’t been seen on the show yet, but it’s where House Targaryen used to keep their dragons in King’s Landing. You know who else is in King’s Landing? Sandor’s brother, Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane. Game of Thrones fans have long waited for Sandor to square off against Gregor in the appropriately named “Cleganebowl” (we’ve written about it multiple times), and both Rory McCann and Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (among many, many, many other cast members) have been spotted in Seville, the rumored stand-in for the Dragonpit. All the pieces are falling into place for Cleganebowl… which is exactly what showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss want us to think.

We’ve all been burned before by Lady Stoneheart rumors. Until Sandor and Gregor are actually beating the junk out of each other, I’m remaining skeptical. Others are taking the half-second shot as confirmation, however.

Game of Thrones returns on July 16.
