Connie Britton Might Not Be Popping Around ‘Nashville’ As Much As We’d Like

Wait, this wasn’t supposed to happen. This wasn’t part of the plan. When Nashville was exhumed from its untimely demise by CMT in the spring, we were told that all our favorite angsty country stars would be back in the saddle and ready to rock. No one ever said anything about the queen of all things Nashville snipping off some of her workload.

But it appears that’s indeed the case. Connie Britton herself, the star of Nashville, is curtailing her involvement, per Deadline, and will appear in “a little more than half the episodes” in the upcoming season five. Britton, who plays country music royal Rayna James, is apparently looking to exit the series for good and is currently involved in talks with the network regarding that very prospect. Of course, there’s no guarantee Nashville will live any longer than one more season so this could be it for Britton as Rayna regardless.

Britton, a multiple Emmy nominee, blew doors in an extended cameo as Faye Resnick in last winter’s The People v. O.J. Simpson, proving that she doesn’t have to play a wholesome yet complicated mom as she does in Nashville and did on Friday Night Lights, to be amazing. As long as she brings that hair and can say “y’all” every so often, she will basically rule whatever it is she does next once Nashville is officially kaput.
