The CW Has Announced Its Midseason Premiere Dates (And Some Changes)

While The CW’s fall season is going strong, there are a lot more shows set to premiere and return in 2017. But news of their midseason release dates shows a few changes for popular shows.

Supernatural, while showing no signs of coming to an end, is making a move to an earlier slot, 8pm on Thursdays, starting January 26 (after its winter break). It will give Riverdale, the highly-anticipated Archie Comics adaptation, a good lead-in. That series is set to debut Thursday, January 26 at 9pm.

“This is a historic moment for Archie Comics – and it’s been a long time coming,” said Archie Comics CEO and Publisher Jon Goldwater. “Partnering with Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa], Greg Berlanti Warner Bros. and The CW has been a wonderful experience, and it’s been stunning to see the show bring our iconic characters to life, adding to the mythos and legend of Archie and his gang. You will be hooked from the first scene, I promise you.”

Legends of Tomorrow, the superhero time-traveling spinoff, recently had four episodes added to its sophomore season (17 in total.) But starting in 2017, this show is making a move. Previously we had DC superhero shows Monday through Thursday but now they’re going to double up. Legends gets a new night on Tuesday, January 24 at 9pm to air directly after The Flash which will remain at 8pm. Legends will air its season finale on Tuesday, March 28.

The dystopian drama The 100 returns on Wednesday, February 1 at 9pm, just after Arrow at 8pm. But fans of the Vertigo Comics adaptation iZombie might want to go on a zombie walk to get their fix as you have an agonizingly long wait ahead. That series won’t get its Season 3 premiere until Tuesday, April 4. The CW will air back-to-back episodes that night and then it will move to its regularly scheduled time period after The Flash (and replacing Legends after its finale) the following week.

That’s the one bit of disappointing news, but fans of Frequency and No Tomorrow may have reason to worry. Right now, The CW has said the finale of No Tomorrow will air Tuesday, January 17 and Frequency on Wednesday, January 25. They were initially given 13-episode orders and they will have fulfilled that, but The CW gives no indication they’ll continue next year.

The Vampire Diaries’ last season will conclude on March 10 while it spinoff, The Originals, will return on Friday, March 17 and filling in their vacated time slot. Season 4 of Reign will begin Friday, February 10 at 9pm and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend will have its season finale Friday, February 3.
