The ‘Documentary Now!’ Season Two Trailer Offers A Political Race Almost As Ridiculous As The Real One

Sorry, that headline should actually read “Season 51 trailer.” Sometimes we forget that Documentary Now! has been around for so many years, hosted by the ageless Helen Mirren, and telling such stories as the rise and fall of The Blue Jeans Committee and “The Hunt for El Chingon.” The new trailer for IFC’s mockumentary series promises the same ridiculous premises and humor that made the last season such a joyous change of pace for TV comedy, and we should expect no less than the weirdest from Bill Hader and Fred Armisen in this new six-episode run. Especially when it comes to taking on the unparalleled nonsense of a good, old-fashioned campaign for governor.

As we saw earlier this month, Documentary Now! brought in the biggest gun to help tell the story of the 1992 Ohio gubernatorial race. That’s right, MTV News icon Tabitha Soren, once again rocking that trademark hairstyle for the sake of historical accuracy.

Always good to see Soren back on television, even as the world still wonders whatever happened to John “The Sense Man” Sencio. It’s not all political humor for Documentary Now!, though, as this season will also return to the concert stage for a Talking Heads parody, and Hader and Armisen will mock the hell out of culinary worship in this season’s second episode, “Juan Likes Chicken and Rice.” The new season of Documentary Now! premieres on September 14 with “The Bunker.”
