Documentaries are a wonderful way to learn without the burden of having to read, and that’s why I think IFC’s new series Documentary Now! is going to be a huge hit amongst the lazy and curious, as well as people who value great comedy by great comedians. Consider the team of Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, and Seth Myers when they were on Saturday Night Live and then put them in dresses to re-enact docs like Grey Gardens, rock concert documentaries, war documentaries… can you think of anyone better to go on an adventure in a war zone than Bill Hader and Fred Armisen? Because I can’t.
Watch the trailer above and get a taste of what it’s like to let these geniuses discover the world and put themselves in grave danger for the sake of storytelling. The first of six episodes of the mockumentary series will premiere Thursday, August 20 on IFC.
