Ellie Kemper Announces Her Pregnancy And Explains How She Had To Hide It From Her ‘Kimmy Schmidt’ Coworkers

Ellie Kemper is preggers, y’all! And while most celebrities reveal their pregnancies by way of publicist (via People magazine), the whimsical Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star announced it during an appearance on The Tonight Show on Wednesday night while promoting season two of the series, which drops on Netflix this Friday. Jimmy Fallon, who clearly knows how to treat a pregnant woman, came prepared with a pint of Ben & Jerry’s “Tonight Dough” ice cream — a decadent blend of caramel and chocolate ice creams with chocolate cookie swirls and gobs of chocolate chip cookie dough and peanut-butter cookie dough, according to the Ben & Jerry’s website — which Kemper says is her favorite flavor.

Kemper also explained that she found out she was pregnant mid-way into shooting this season of Kimmy Schmidt, which didn’t present any problems until the last table read when she found out that her character was supposed to ride on a roller coaster — an obvious “no no” for a woman carrying a child. While she confessed her pregnancy to boss Tina Fey, getting around the stunt required Kemper to lie to the rest of the cast and crew by faking a back injury during the rest of filming, which — as it turns out — is a much more difficult feat than one might imagine.

It’s safe to say everyone probably knew that Kemper was pregnant by the wrap party. Oh well, cat’s out of the bag now, so congrats to the parents-to-be!
