Eric Andre Recalls How He Thought He Was ‘Going To Die’ At The RNC

In case you missed it, last week Eric Andre visited the RNC, and Thursday night he stopped to chat with Stephen Colbert about the, uh, interesting experience. Colbert starts off by asking Andre about his talk show strategy, which is, “What I like about your talk show is that you do not seem to care, like professionally. You don’t care on a professional level.” That in a nutshell, definitely seems to sum up Andre’s RNC visit.

Which is not to say he didn’t have a good time. “Yeah, it was exciting,” he told Colbert, “I jammed out with Alex Jones [of InfoWars] … He’s on a war against info.” Of course, we all know how that turned out. Colbert notes that he’s not sure the Alex Jones crowd enjoyed the appearance as much as he did, rolling the clip in which Andre gets violently pushed around by the crowd.

“That was an open carry state, Ohio. Everyone had guns and knives,” Andre says. “And I was like, oh, I’m going to die.” Colbert, on the other hand, sees it another way. “It was fine, it was fine! You misjudged the crowd. You owe them an apology!” “I do,” Andre admits, “I am sorry. I am sorry, crowd.”

But just so you know he’s an equal opportunity offender, Andre also visited the DNC, which will also have a video forthcoming. He admits that crowd was a bit more mellow, however, saying “They smoke a little more… weed.” No one there probably accused him of being Martin Luther King, anyway.
