The return of The X-Files has been such a success that Fox executives badly want to believe even more episodes can be a reality. The six-episode X-Files miniseries hasn’t been a universal critical darling by any means, but the show’s been a ratings smash, breaking records around he world. In an interview with Variety, Fox Entertainment president David Madden was enthusiastic about bringing the show back for another round…
“We said before it aired that we would love to do more, and we are over the moon with the performance. So far, the response has been really encouraging. We haven’t talked to the talent yet about Season 2 in any more definitive way than we had prior to airing the show, but certainly, it seems like there’s an audience responding to the show that would love to see more episodes.”
David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are busy people, but it seems hard to believe Fox won’t be able to lure the dynamic monster-busting duo back. This season of The X-Files was a gamble, and nobody was sure how well it would do. Now that Fox knows they have a hit on their hands, they’ll probably be willing to plump Anderson and Duchovny’s checks up a bit to convince them to return. For his part, Duchovny has said he’d be willing to do more episodes, and I imagine Gillian Anderson would be, too, as long as they don’t try and pull that “paying her half as much as her co-star” nonsense again.
How did you enjoy The X-Files‘ all-too-brief return? What would you want to see from another mini-season? Nerd out below, ’90s kids.

As long as they keep as a short season I would like to see more.
Do a second 10 episode season, with more of the Monster of Week episodes than the conspiracy ones.
I would another season/series of the show, but ONLY if Duchovny and Anderson are fully involved. And I’d really prefer to have Carter not write any of it. Or if there’s going to be mythology stuff, make it MAKE SENSE and have a thru-line. This season has been mess (with some bright spots) and I think a different showrunner could really improve things. I’m definitely NOT interested in a spinoff of any sort and only watch for Mulder and Scully.
Bags full of cash solve a lot of things.
All you fools complain so hard on the myth ones. Granted at this point the monster of the week eps are indeed better, yet the conspiracy ones used to be great before they all got super nebulous. All I really know is if Mulder’s drug trip was the only “promised return” of the gunmen, I’m going to I guess yell at the internet more til I discovered a better plan. Taking suggestions
This whole season has felt like classic X-Files for good and bad. Good in that the tone and everything is there, but bad in that when they only have 6 episodes I guess the B grade “average” episodes kind of stick out or seem worse. But I’ve always had the series in my netflix queue and have been rewatching it casually for years so maybe I’m more forgiving or aware of how often they just kind of made “good not great” episodes. The show skated by often on just how great the characters were.
If anybody involved had any shame, they’d stop. This whole thing is fucking embarrasing.
They will be back $$$ and hopefully to do more than 6 episodes. In order of ranking for worst to best of the 5 episodes.
Babylon – It was brave of them to use as a muslim as a terrorist. I’m sure a ton of white PC folks were squirming in their seats over that which gives it a higher score than it deserves. – 6/10 (5 but +1 for rustling the jimmies of the white guilt crowd)
My Struggle – Confusing and probably would take a 2nd viewing to really catch everything but I really didn’t like the way the changed the storyline (not that is all that different) but it was Mulder and Scully fighting the man which counts for something. – 7/10
Home Again – Scully’s mother finally dies. The story started out very interesting but it turned out to be nothing more than a Banksy style artist who could make his art come to life. Bonus points for dismemberment style killings – 7/10
Founders Mutation – Mulder and Scully’s grieve over their missing son and both dream of what it would it would be like with William in their lives. Additional points for performing tests on deformed kids (some really cool ones). 8/10
Mulder and Scully meet the Were-monster – Unique take in that the monster was bitten and he now turns into a human. Bonus points for Rhys Darby. – 8/10
