What Has The ‘Full House’ Cast Been Up To Since The Show Went Off The Air?

Whether you’re a fan of the now officially green-lit Full House reboot or not, you have to admit that public interest in the project has been both robust and a little surprising. People apparently want to know what Uncle Jesse, DJ.. Tanner, and other characters from the show have been up to since we last saw them. But while we can’t offer anything more than loose theory on those questions right now, we can catch you up on what the show’s original cast and select guest stars have been up to with some surprising results.

John Stamos (Uncle Jesse)

Ageless handsome-bot John Stamos has made numerous appearances on television with lengthy arcs on Glee and a 65-episode run on ER that I do not at all remember. He also invented Oikos yogurt and became a Beach Boy… sorta. Through it all, no one has touched the hair.

Dave Coulier (Uncle Joey)

Following the end of Full House and America’s Funniest People, Coulier has continued to walk the Earth as a joke teller and occasional voice actor (China, IL) while simultaneously working to dispel the rumor that Alanis’ “You Oughta Know” was about him. His hobbies include being polite to people when they tell him to “Cut… It… Out…” and ignoring my countless mailed requests for an Out of Control reboot, probably.

Bob Saget (Danny Tanner)

After establishing America’s Funniest Home Videos and vanquishing Coulier in the great video show war of the early ’90s, Saget went on to slowly peel away the layers of his wholesome sitcom-dad image by reminding people that he knows how to form curse word sounds with his mouth while doing stand-up and rapping with Jamie Kennedy. He also out-Daniel Sterned Daniel Stern by spending nine years as the narrator on How I Met Your Mother.

Candace Cameron Bure (D.J. Tanner)

Candace Cameron Bure married a hockey player (Valeri Bure), had three kids, starred in approximately 17 Hallmark movies and ABC Family’s Make it or Break It, wrote two supposedly inspirational books, and appeared on Dancing with the Stars. She’s also enjoyed an uninterrupted two-decade run as the sanest of the Cameron children, thanks to her brother Kirk, who hasn’t been the same since that one time that he switched bodies with Dudley Moore.

Jodie Sweetin (Stephanie Tanner)

Sweetin has made appearances in a few obscure independent films, but her biggest post-Full House gig was as the host of Fuse TV’s Pants Off Dance Off. She also wrote a tell-all where she revealed her proclivity for…

Thankfully, she seems to have finally gotten clean.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (Michelle Tanner)

The Olsen Twins got stupid rich by selling their adorableness to the masses by way of direct-to-video movies, dolls, fashion, and makeup. Then they became adults and continued to exist in the ether as fashion icons, Paris Hilton peers, and sorta sex symbols that make you feel creepy about their sex symbolness.

Mary-Kate stayed with the acting for a little bit, appearing in WeedsThe Wackness, and Beastly before settling down with a 45-year-old French banker who is no Heath Ledger in the looks department.

Ashley Olsen hasn’t done much acting work outside of the Olsen Twins-branded movies, and she currently sits in third place on the Olsen Family Power Rankings Chart, thanks to the ascent of her sister Elizabeth. Poor kid.

Lori Loughlin (Rebecca Katsopolis)

In 2006, Loughlin re-teamed with Stamos for an episode of the short-lived Jake in Progress after the death of her short-lived show, Summerland. Following that, she spent parts of four years on 90210, made an appearance on Psych, and co-starred in Michael Landon, Jr.’s When Calls the Heart. Everyone still has a crush on her.

Comet the Dog

He’s dead, but before the Tanner family Golden Retriever shuffled off this mortal coil in 1998, he lived. Not only was Comet the real star of Full House, but he also went on to star in the first Air Bud movie. There are still a few cast members to look at, but Comet (his actual name was Air Bud) may have had the most impressive post-Full House career of the bunch.

Andrea Barber (Kimmy Gibbler)

Barber had a role in The Skateboard Kid II around the time Full House wrapped up, but she decided to leave on high and focus on her studies. That decision paid off as Barber earned an English degree and an MA in Women’s Studies and later worked as an educator. After all this time away, she’s been pulled back into the game for one last job.

Frequent Guest Stars

Blake Tuomy-Wilhoit and Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit (Nicky and Alex Katsopolis) played Jesse and Becky’s mop-topped twin sons. Following the end of the show, the Wilhoit’s followed different professional paths with Blake working as a firefighter in Atlanta and Dylan working as a sound tech on Game of Thrones.

Scott Weinger (Steve) traded Hollywood for Harvard after Full House ended, returning only to reprise his voice role as Aladdin for Disney multiple times during his studies. Since graduating, he has appeared sparingly on-camera (a guest-spot on Scrubs) and worked extensively behind it as a producer on Galavant, 90210, and Black-ish.

David Lipper (Viper) took D.J.’s rejection in stride and has continued to work steadily with numerous guest spots and smaller movie roles. He also owns several frozen yogurt shops.

Jason Marsden (Nelson) went over to Step by Step after Full House and has continued to stay quite busy as a voice actor.

Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Denise) stayed in the TGIF family with a role in On Our Own before opening some eyes with a dramatic performance beside Samuel L. Jackson in Eve’s Bayou. In 2009, she joined the cast of Friday Night Lights as a football-obsessed overachiever and the quarterback’s (eventual) girlfriend… sorry, Landry. Most recently, Smolett had an arc on Parenthood and played Nicole Wright for two seasons on True Blood.

Blake McIver (Derek) is now a go-go dancer. Seriously.

Gail Edwards (Vicky) retired from acting after finishing up her work on Blossom and Full House.
