A ‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Believes His Character Will Make It Through The Coming War For The Iron Throne

Game of Thrones season 7 is still months away, which means now is the perfect time to start wondering what’s going on with Samwell Tarly. Sam might be the key to everything, the anti-Jar Jar, and now he’s adding to the swirling theories of where the plot is going, and who is going to survive the coming war.

On the Walking the Dog podcast with Emily Dean, actor John Bradley, who plays Tarly, gives some insight into where the young bookworm, and possible eventual maester, is headed. He seems positive that Tarly will be in this for the long haul:

“The thing about Sam is, if he’s still around at this stage, you do suspect that there is gonna be a point to keeping him around.”

Some fans have theorized that Tarly will be the one to cure Jorah Mormont’s greyscale with his newfound knowledge in the Citadel. That would certainly give him a reason to stick around, but what’s more intriguing is the theory Bradley added fuel to last year that he’s the narrator of Game of Thrones or A Song of Ice and Fire. Whichever you want. This means he does something nearly impossible in this show. He survives.

“One theory is that what we’re seeing now and how we’re experiencing Game of Thrones is Sam telling the story of Game of Thrones. If you take the logic of the story now, the story of Westeros and the story of the battle for the Iron Throne, it would be a book in that library.”

Would Bradley be so bold as to openly give hints and clues as to what the hell is going to happen in TV’s most popular show? Wouldn’t someone tell him to shut up by now? Or is he just scratching his chin like the rest of us?

What’s even more likely: he dies horribly in minute one or episode one of season seven and all of this was an intricate ruse because George R. R. Martin makes cruel masochists of us all.
