[Spoilers for Game of Thrones, but c’mon]
More than 30 recurring characters — so, people with names, unlike Muddy Soldier #6 — died during Game of Thrones season six, including Hodor, Rickon, the Three-Eyed Raven, Margaery, and most tragically, Wun Wun. And yet, it was still arguably the show’s most optimistic season. Arya got her sight back; Jon Snow and Sansa reclaimed the North; Ramsay and the High Sparrow were killed; and Samwell turned into Belle from Beauty and the Beast when he saw the Citadel’s library. The good times can’t possibly last, can they?
They can’t.
Kit Harington hasn’t read any scripts for season seven yet, but he has a prediction for what’s coming, besides winter. “I think it’s going to get very bleak before if there is a happy ending,” the Emmy-nominated actor told the Hollywood Reporter. “If there’s any sort of win or heroic moment for Jon and everyone else. I think it’s going to get very dark before it gets better. I think what we might see this season is those White Walkers and that Army of the Dead really come into force.” He added, “I think with the whole ‘winter is finally here’ business, it means everyone is going to have a really bad time.”
One of Jon’s advisors in snow-covered Winterfell added:
Winter is here, and bleakness… has been here the entire time.
