Missing Frames From This ‘Game Of Thrones’ Trailer May Reveal The Fate Of Jon Snow

Early on in the HBO media blitz for season six of Game of Thrones, there was a particular scene in one of the trailers that showed a mounted horseman with a serious resemblance to the very dead and totally never coming back corpse of Jon Snow. You can take a look at a slowed down version of that right here:

But largely unnoticed was some extra editing that went on with that particular scene – specifically, the removal of a few frames from the continued sequence. BeforeISleepFilms (the same guys who did that comprehensive breakdown of The Walking Dead Negan cliffhanger) noticed that the footage cuts from a frame where we can almost make out the features on the mystery character to one where his face is obscured by smoke and mud and horses dying. It’s a pretty intense looking scene!

The easiest way to see the cut frames is to ignore the maybe-Jon character and instead watch the horse on the left of the gif as it spins and collapses. Its hooves splay out to the right and then are suddenly straight up due to the removal of two to six frames.

It begs the question: why would HBO remove a couple of random frames from a trailer? Was it because on closer inspection, those frames provided conclusive evidence that it was indeed Jon Snow on that horse, proving he’d come back to life and fight in a major battle later in the season? We can’t say for sure that’s the case, but it certainly seems likely to us. I guess we’ll just have to keep tuning into the new episodes to find out.
