2010 Golden Globe Nominations: Predictably Retarded

The Golden Globe nominations were released today, and with them comes the necessary disclaimer that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association isn’t bound by anything that might be mistaken for journalistic integrity or standards of any sort. The voting might as well be done by retarded children and a pool of smallmouth bass.

Anyway, when held up against the film nominations, the TV noms don’t look as stupid. Here they are:

BEST TV SERIES, DRAMA

Boardwalk Empire

Dexter

The Good Wife

Mad Men

The Walking Dead

They nominated two AMC series, neither of which was “Breaking Bad.” Sigh.

TV SERIES, MUSICAL OR COMEDY

30 Rock

The Big Bang Theory

The Big C

Glee

Modern Family

Nurse Jackie

Showtime has some good series, but I’m tired of media insisting that “The Big C” and “Nurse Jackie” (not to mention “Weeds”) are comedies. Comedies have jokes. They’re supposed to make you laugh. Anyone who can explain to me how “Nurse Jackie” is funnier than “Community” will get a shiny nickel from me. And a punch in the throat.

BEST ACTRESS, TV DRAMA

Julianna Margulies The Good Wife

Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men

Piper Perabo, Covert Affairs

Katey Sagal, Sons of Anarchy

Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer

Nice to see Katey Sagal finally get some recognition (a season too late, of course). And I’ve honestly never heard of “Covert Affairs.” I loved Perabo in Coyote Ugly, though. Can’t fight the moonlight.

BEST ACTOR, TV DRAMA

Steve Buscemi, Boardwalk Empire

Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad

Michael C. Hall, Dexter

Jon Hamm, Mad Men

Hugh Laurie, House

Sure, that works.
