So the Penguin is officially not insane. And Gordon is off the hook for shooting a terrorist who murdered dozens by night while running for mayor by day in the face, right? Well, normally he would be, but this is Gotham!
This episode has a few running plots. Bruce decided, after last week’s confrontation with the man who killed his parents, to go be an urchin on the streets, which we’re guessing won’t end well. Nygma, showing Riddler’s tendency for self-sabotage, is convinced Gordon knows Nygma murdered his girlfriend and is laying a trap for Gordon as a result. Oh, and if that weren’t enough, Paul Reubens, Pee-wee Herman to most of us, appears as Penguin’s dad, along with a gaggle of “Van Dahl” siblings. This once again shows DC’s propensity for casting gags: Reubens also played Penguin’s dad in Batman Returns. Of course, considering Penguin’s spent the last few episodes being pumped full of hallucinogens and being psychologically manipulated by a supervillain-constructing mad scientist, this will likely go horribly wrong.
