NBC’s Decision To Cancel ‘Hannibal’ ‘P*ssed’ Off Mads Mikkelsen And He Wants It To Come Back

Television shows don’t die anymore — they’re just put in suspended animation with the prospect of being revived at a later date. Hannibal is one of the more coveted specimens when it comes to a possible return, and star Mads Mikkelsen says he’s game to reemerge as network television’s favorite cannibal.

Mikkelsen addressed the subject while chatting with Britain’s Sunday Express. When the critically acclaimed series was axed in 2015, Mikkelsen said they were as upset as the die-hard fans over the thriller’s fate:

“We are all angry. We were p****d. It’s madness,” the Danish actor said of the cancellation. “And season four was actually the one we thought we’d definitely get. Seasons two and three were on the verge. We didn’t know whether Hannibal would be renewed. But by the time we got to season four we thought it was a definite. We were very surprised at the decision.”

The 50-year-old Dane expressed that he was happy about being able to do the program for three seasons, but they “had more to tell.” He wouldn’t give up what else there is to be said and done, although he did share that he could envision a way to navigate season three’s finale.

Mikkelsen noted that Hannibal creator and showrunner Bryan Fuller would be an essential part of the process if the show were to come back to life. With Starz’s American Gods adaptation on his plate, Fuller is likely to be busy for a while, but Mikkelsen thinks that could work for Hannibal:

“It all depends on Bryan. He is the key, the base, the heart,” Mikkelsen said. “We will wait and see what happens next in his career. But we all know that we can easily pick this up in two or three years, there are breaks in the stories. We could pick it up, say, four years later. If Bryan is up for it, we will all go for it.”

You read what the excellent acting man said. Keep your eye on things for a few years and see what happens.
