Game of Thrones is a massive success for HBO, both critically admired and commercially profitable, but so many things could have gone wrong. The showrunners might have treated the fantasy material with derision, or executives could have refused to give it the budget it deserves, or maybe Lacey Chabert was cast as Daenerys Targaryen instead of Emilia Clarke. In the 1990s, that’s who the internet wanted to play the Mother of Dragons in a possible Game of Thrones movie, according to an ancient Tripod page (last update: July 2, 2000) uncovered by r/asoiaf.
