John Krasinski Will Be Our New Jack Ryan In An Upcoming Amazon Series

Jack Ryan is the CIA analyst that cannot die. Tom Clancy’s protagonist has been through a number of iterations. Starting out with Alec Baldwin in 1990’s The Hunt For Red October, Harrison Ford is the most memorable Ryan by far, in the double header Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger in the early ’90s. Two forgettable reboots followed: The Sum of All Fears with Ben Affleck and most recently Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit with Chris Pine.

Well, our intrepid hero is getting another shot at saving the free world. According to Deadline, John Krasinski has been cast as the titular agent in a new Amazon series titled simply Jack Ryan. Lost‘s Carlton Cuse and and Graham Roland will take on show runner duties, and Michael Bay‘s Platinum Dunes and Skydance Media will also be involved. If Jack Ryan is ordered to series, it will be Paramount Television’s sixth show since its launch.

This project would reunite Krasinski and Bay, who worked together on 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi. 13 Hours was also Krasinski’s bid to transition from Jim Halpert, office nerd, to leading man action hero. While working with Bay could be a risky choice if one is looking for critical acclaim, it seems to be working out for Krasinski.
