John Slattery Unloads The Grudge He’s Held Against Stephen Colbert For 25 Years

In a way, it’s difficult to remember a time when former Mad Men star John Slattery wasn’t everywhere. Ever since landing the role of Roger Sterling on the hit AMC show, Slattery has not been left wanting in the work department and perhaps never will again for the rest of his career. That doesn’t mean that things were always rosy for the 54-year-old actor. Oh no, in fact, at one point early in his career, he lost out on a role to none other than host of The Late Show, Stephen Colbert.

That’s not something that just goes away, apparently, as John Slattery held onto that memory and grudge for a whole 25 years. Yes, for 25 years. He went on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and decided to immediately clear the air by telling the story of his heartbreak, only for Colbert to then elaborate that he did land the role, but that the show never even made it to air, so he was out of work as well.

Slattery is starring in The Front Page on Broadway right now, so yeah, things are still going well for him, but it seems hard to forget those early days when they were both clawing for any and all jobs.
