Girls creator/star Lena Dunham was sent to hospital today after suffering an ovarian cyst rupture.

The medical issue facing the actress was confirmed by People when the outlet got in contact with Dunham’s rep. It’s a matter that will require the 29-year-old multihyphenate to undergo surgery. Dunham’s spokesperson outlined the scenario that prompted medical attention and requested that the public and press show courtesy as her client recuperates.

“Lena Dunham has been very public with her personal bouts with endometriosis. This morning, she suffered from an ovarian cyst rupture and has been taken to the hospital,” her spokesperson, Cindi Berger, told PEOPLE in a statement. “Lena will be undergoing surgery at an undisclosed hospital. We thank you for you understanding and hope that Lena’s privacy will be respected.”

As Berger noted, Dunham has not shied away from discussing the challenges she’s faced as a result of the disorder. On February 8th, she was incredibly candid about a “rough patch” she was facing with endometriosis and shared that she would be focusing on her own health instead of making the press rounds to promote the new season of Girls. We wish Ms. Dunham the best as she recovers.
