Last week’s episode of Gotham was rather eventful: Theo Galavan’s terrible plan fell apart, Bruce discovered his spine without Alfred slapping him, and the Penguin met an unexpected potential ally. It’s that last that promises to be the most interesting as Gotham gets nuttier.
The promo is all about Gordon, who we’ll remind you has a fairly dark secret, and Nathaniel Barnes, his seemingly no-nonsense captain who has increasingly revealed himself to be something of a hard case who isn’t really picky about minor points like “bringing back criminals alive” or “proportionate response.” It seems that Gordon will be pushed over the line, and consider this guy’s typical workday involves machine guns and accidentally exploding people. Of course, his perp is The Flamingo, who eats faces. No, we’re serious. In the comic, he eats faces. On this show, he probably eats children.
But the real curiosity here will be Penguin and Nygma teaming up. Nygma has been steadily losing his balance over the course of the season and is full-on homicidal at this point… and Penguin, hilariously, couldn’t care less. Consider his first reaction, upon stumbling on two of Nygma’s victims, was to wolf down a sandwich and leave. So, this will be a curious meeting of the minds, to say the least.
