Lizzy Caplan 'Sex'? Lizzy Caplan 'Sex.'

Knowing full well that people like us exist — don’t pretend you’re not an “us” — Showtime has gone ahead and officially picked up “Masters of Sex,” starring Lizzy Caplan, for a 12-episode first season, set to begin in 2013.

“Masters of Sex” stars Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan, who will portray the real-life pioneers of the science of human sexuality, William Masters and Virginia Johnson. The series chronicles the unusual lives, romance and pop culture trajectory of Masters and Johnson. Their research touched off the sexual revolution and took them from a mid-western teaching hospital in St. Louis to the cover of Time magazine and nearly a dozen appearances on Johnny Carson’s couch. This is already the second best series on Showtime, after “Homeland,” though that says more about the rest of the network’s programming, like “Dexter” and “Weeds,” than anything else. Plus, considering it’s Showtime, we’ll probably be able to use “Lizzy Caplan” and “sex” in the same sentence for at least 17 seasons. On behalf of people like us everywhere, I’d like to say, “Thank you, Showtime. Thank you.”

If you say so.

And for the ladies? I have no idea, is Michael Sheen a thing for women?
