‘Louie’ Pays Tribute to Woody Allen, But Don’t Hold That Against It

It’s a sad few months for viewers of quality television, as FX’s original programming is on hiatus. It’s actually an opportune time to take a break, as “Mad Men” and “Game of Thrones” fill the gaps between “Justified” and “Louie.” Original programming will return on June 28th, and FX has two new shows, and two returning shows, toplined by the return of “Louie.” The first promo from season three doesn’t offer anything substantive, nor does it add to Louis CK’s 20 Commandments to Live By, but there is a cool nod to Woody Allen’s Manhattan. It’s not nearly enough to get us to June, but it’s something.

The other returning show is “Wilfred,” which returns for its second season.

Charlie Sheen also returns to television with his television remake of the Adam Sandler film, Anger Management. There’s a teaser for that, too, and for some reason, people actually want it to succeed.

Finally, Russell Brand has apparently exhausted all his good will in feature films and is returning to television with a late-night talk show, “Brand X with Russell Brand.”

Now that I’ve officially met my promotional obligation to plug all the new shows on FX, the network owes me a new edition of “CharDee MacDennis: The Game of Games.”
