Louis C.K. Gives A Comforting Answer About The Lack Of ‘Louie’ In The Near Future

Whither Louie? Who knows? Louis C.K. certainly doesn’t.

C.K. was on hand at this weekend’s Television Critics Association press tour to promote the new FX Zach Galifianakis series Baskets — on which he’s an executive producer. Naturally, the topic of Louie, which is currently on “extended hiatus,” came up via a question from Variety, and C.K. admitted he’s just not sure when his eponymous series will return to the airwaves.

“I don’t know. I just don’t know. I don’t know. I think about it sometimes and I just don’t know,” he said to the room of reporters and critics. “It’s such an autobiographical thing that I could do a version of ‘Louie’ when he’s 60, if anyone gives a sh-t… By the time I want to, I might say, ‘Hey guys,’ and they’ll be like, ‘Who is this?’”

In addition to working on Baskets, C.K. is also an executive producer on a new series starring his friend and Louie co-star Pamela Adlon titled Better Things and scheduled to premiere sometime this year. So as far as resuming work on Louie is concerned, it may just be an issue of scheduling.

For what it’s worth, C.K. pointed out that for him, Baskets is even better than his own show:

“I think it’s very different. It operates on a different frequency. I think Zach’s show succeeds on many levels that my show doesn’t,” C.K. said. “He kind of ignites a laughter. He’s much more generous of a performer than I am. So I think in a lot of ways, I prefer Zach’s show just in terms of the comedy.”

Baskets premieres Thursday night on FX and will hopefully be able to hold us over until some of that creativity breaks free.
