“I’m not Cinderella, my life has not been a fairy tale,” Mariah Carey voice overs in the trailer for her upcoming docu-series, as footage rolls of the elusive chanteuse drinking wine someplace European looking, stepping off of a private jet dripping in fur and jewels with a glass of wine in hand, and clinking glasses of champagne under fireworks. Somehow, this all makes it a bit difficult to believe her.
Yes, Mariah’s World is finally almost upon us, the limited, eight-part E! series which will document Carey’s 2016 tour, as well as engagement to billionaire James Packer. And if the trailer is any indication, it’s every bit as insane and wonderful as we hoped it could be, with Mariah witticisms such as, “I’m wearing these glasses because we’re in fluorescent lighting, and I have a rule which states that I will not be seen in fluorescent lighting without sunglasses.”
Whatever you say, girlfriend. We all know who’s in charge here. Title cards promise, “Between the diva and the legend is Mariah… Step out of the ordinary [and] into the extraordinary,” which sounds about right. Unfortunately, there’s still no premiere date and the trailer still says “coming soon,” but you can bet all the glittery butterflies in the world that we’ll be marking our calendars when we know for sure.
