Marvel Confirms Their ‘Iron Fist’ Lead And Sneaks In A Teaser Image While They’re At It

Word that Game of Thrones alum Finn Jones would be the lead in Marvel’s Iron Fist Netflix adaptation has circulated since February, but now the comic giant is ready to give the casting news its official stamp.

The decision to have Jones step into the role of Danny Rand was trumpeted on Marvel’s website today, with Head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb gushing that their chosen hero “wonderfully blends confidence with vulnerability, making him the perfect choice as he struggles to find his place in the world.” The Netflix offering’s maestro also strongly endorses Jones as the ideal man for the job.

“Danny Rand is a very complicated character. He’s a billionaire New York Buddhist monk martial arts superhero who’s still trying to figure out what exactly that all means,” said Executive Producer and showrunner, Scott Buck. “Finn is able to play all these levels in such an honest, revelatory way that as soon as I saw him I knew he was our Danny.”

The character of Rand is a white dude, but the decision to not go with an Asian-American actor in the role has perplexed some observers who considered this an ideal opportunity for representation and diversity in a field already packed with caucasian heroes. It’s certainly a fair question, especially when other comic book properties have shown flexibility in this respect while still scoring Ws with critics and fans.

In addition to Marvel going “yes, that thing you heard is true,” they’ve also trotted out a teaser for the upcoming streaming series. It’s not exactly brimming with details, but that’s why it’s considered a “tease.” (It also doubles as confirmation you weren’t simply imagining an Iron Fist series was on its way.)

Word on when the series will debut is still under wraps, but if you want your Finn fix you can (likely) see him in the new season of Game of Thrones which premieres on April 24.
