No One Asked Melissa McCarthy Back For The ‘Gilmore Girls’ Revival

When a Gilmore Girls revival on Netflix was rumored, and then confirmed, everyone assumed that Melissa McCarthy would be too busy to reprise her character, Sookie St. James, because she’s been pretty busy being a movie star since Bridesmaids came out.

Now TV Line is reporting that McCarthy wasn’t even asked back. McCarthy herself tweeted on Tuesday that nobody has asked her to be a part of the iconic series’ wrap-up season.

This flies in the face of Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino’s assertion that McCarthy had an open invitation to rejoin. On Monday, Sherman-Palladino told TV Line, “Look, if Melissa is available and has an afternoon free, I’ll write her a scene.” Apparently, this was said to McCarthy’s team, though, so maybe the message never made it back to the actress herself.

And maybe nobody really asked or pushed the subject because they all assumed that the actress had more important things than go back to a TV show that she made before she was famous? The tone of McCarthy’s tweet is a bit curious, too. It doesn’t look like she’s falling all over herself to go back, either. So, whoever did or didn’t ask, and no matter how much McCarthy may or may not miss the show, it does seem like she’s too busy or disinterested to revisit Stars Hollow.
