Back in August, I suggested the government should create a federal holiday celebrating the release of season four of Arrested Development this spring. I mean, if Netflix is going to release all 10 episodes at once, we may as well have a holiday because a lot of people will be calling in sick anyway (the reported cases of “I Just Blue Myself Flu” will probably skyrocket on release day). Deadline’s latest report has given us reason to perhaps extend that holiday into a second day, as now instead of the original 10-episode order, it looks like there will be 12-15 episodes.
Acording to Deadline, in the midst of filming the original ten episodes, series creator Mitch Hurwitz had a lot of additional footage, and he found some creative ways to extend that footage into additional episodes. Filming on the series has gone on hiatus as he figures out exactly how to mold the footage into additional episodes, and filming will resume in January. The trick will be working around the cast’s existing schedules, although that shouldn’t present too much difficulty, as most of the cast has far fewer commitments than they did several years ago right after Arrested Development was cancelled.
Netflix has not yet confirmed the episode count, but you should go ahead and block out around eight hours to view the entire fourth season once it is released, perhaps over Spring Break.
