Worlds Collide As Netflix’s New ‘MST3K’ Crew Takes On ‘Stranger Things’

On Friday, the 20 classic episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000 available on Netflix were joined by a new batch of episodes for the streaming service’s highly anticipated reboot, Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return. To commemorate the occasion, Netflix smartly chose to wait until a few hours after the release of the The Last Jedi teaser to drop a short clip. In it, new co-hosts Jonah Heston (Jonah Ray), Tom Servo (Baron Vaughn) and Crow T. Robot (Hampton Yount) watch and skewer the opening minutes of Stranger Things‘ “Chapter One: The Vanishing of Will Byers.” Or as Heston exclaims after seeing the episode’s title card, “Ah, ‘Chapter One.’ It’s a book. No!”

The way-too-short segment is rife with the kind of humor MST3K fans know and love, though its primary target is Police Chief Jim Hopper’s (David Harbour) amazing “dad bod.” After all, as Stranger Fans should know, the opening crawl of “Chapter One” follows Byers’ (Noah Schnapp) disappearance and precedes Hopper’s amazing introduction. Some of the gang’s better insults include (but are not limited to):

  • “Is that a mashed potato sculpture on the couch or…? Oh.”
  • “Did my watch just bark?”
  • “The best part of waking up is letting my goods hang out.”
  • “I could have been a clown.”
  • “Aw, they should’ve called this Sadder Things.”

The gang is back, guys!
