Fox News Used False Claims About Sprinkles As Proof That President Obama Plans To Ban Christmas Cookies

While simultaneously claiming to be “over attacks on Christianity,” notorious Fox News derp chamber Fox & Friends spent part of yesterday fabricating and lubricating yet another counterfeit attack in the alleged War on Christmas.

Host Clayton Morris opened the segment above by telling viewers to “say goodbye to your favorite sprinkled donuts” while waving a plate of delicious-looking confectionaries in front of the camera, citing “news” that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is cracking down on trans fats.

The FDA announced its plans over a year ago, of course, but that didn’t stop Fox & Friends from conveniently planting this segment — along with a plate of Christmas-themed treats — right in the heart of the holiday season. A season that will never be the same if Obama and the FDA get their way, as Morris brazenly claimed at one point during the segment: “If you’re making cookies once a year with your kids on the holidays, that’ll be banned.”

The truth is, sprinkles aren’t going anywhere. As Alternet points out, Paulaur and American Spinkle Company — the country’s largest topping manufacturers — removed trans fats from their sprinkles months ago using non hydrogenated palm oil, meaning their toppings are already in adherence of the FDA’s plans to phase out trans fats.
