Paul Reubens Played ‘Name That Tune’ With A Balloon On ‘The Tonight Show’

Paul Reubens stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday to promote his new Netflix movie, Pee-wee’s Big Holiday. And though he was outside of the character he’s played for decades, Reubens did show off one of Pee-wee’s many odd skills: playing the balloon as a musical instrument.

After a bit of balloon free-styling, Reuben asked Fallon to name that tune. Fallon couldn’t follow the melody, but The Roots caught on quick and offered a little help.

Reubens is finally back thanks to the recent resurgence of his most-famous character (though our own Andrew Husband was back on team Pee-wee long before).

That connection with Reubens character isn’t exactly strange; Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Big Holiday co-star Stephanie Beatriz said as much in her interview with Uproxx earlier this month.

“I watched the show so much growing up. It was such a part of my childhood, adolescence and young adulthood, that it felt like I was coming back to meet an old friend, and we just picked up where we left off. Even meeting Paul Reubens in the first auditions was like,’Oh yeah! There you are!’ “

Back on The Tonight Show, Reubens also revealed how he was almost on the cover of Muscle & Fitness, an odd story that involves uninvited pinching from a grown man.

Though it wasn’t to be, a mock-up was created with just a smidgen of Photoshop.

Glorious.
