President Obama Wished David Letterman A Heartfelt Farewell On ‘The Late Show’

As the countdown to David Letterman’s final Late Show draws ever near, President Obama stopped by last night to give the late night host of 31 years the presidential sendoff. After the two men joked with one another about playing dominoes together in their respective retirements, Obama took it down a serious notch.

The president wished Letterman a moving farewell, telling him, “We’ve grown up with you; the country, after a tough day at the office or coming home from work, knowing you’ve been there, to give us a little bit of joy, little bit of laughter… it has meant so much, and you’re part of all of us. You’ve given us a great gift, and we love you.”

It’s nothing short of a miracle that Letterman was able to hold it together.
