Everyone Stop What You’re Doing: Omar Little Might Be Robocop’s Sidekick

When I heard a bunch of Hollywood bigwigs were rebooting Robocop, my initial reaction was something along the lines of “WHAT WHY NO DON’T,” because the original Robocop films are perfect little balls of movie magic and I did not want to see them bastardized by whatever the hell a bunch of dimwitted studio boobs were planning to do to them. But then — OH, THEN — I saw this story in my RSS feed last night, and now I am 100% on board.

Boardwalk Empire [Ed. note – Embarrasing misspelling of ‘The Wire’] actor Michael Kenneth Williams is in negotiations to join the cast of Robocop, MGM and Sony’s remake of the classic 1987 sci-fi action movie.

The movie is gearing up for a September start in Toronto and has amassed a line up that includes Joel Kinnaman as the title hero, Hugh Laurie as the villain, plus Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Jay Baruchel, Abbie Cornish and Jackie Earle Haley.

Williams will play the partner to Kinnaman’s police officer Alex Murphy who is tight with Murphy’s family.

Michael K. Williams, Omar Little from The Wire, might be playing Robocop’s partner. OMAR AND ROBOCOP AS PARTNERS. YES. You do this, people in charge of this movie. You do this IMMEDIATELY. Give Michael K. Williams all the money he wants. Hell, rewrite the whole script so it’s literally just Robocop and a thinly-veiled representation of Omar running around Detroit and cleaning up the streets by sticking up dope boys and storming stash houses. I would watch that movie so many times it would burn itself into my eyeballs like they’re crappy plasma screen televisions.

Between all that and the upcoming movie where he plays Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Michael K. Williams is quickly slapping together one of the greatest acting careers of all time. Eat it, Newman and Redford.
