Samantha Bee Teases A Final Toast For The Free Press At The ‘Not The White House Correspondents’ Dinner’

Almost a full month before Donald Trump confirmed he would not attend the annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, Full Frontal host Samantha Bee announced her hit TBS program would host its own version of the so-called “Nerd Prom.” Slated to premiere Saturday, April 29 at 10 p.m. ET on TBS — which just so happens to be the same day as the official event — Bee’s send-up of the regular affair (and its missing woman man of the hour) is sure to enrage and enlighten her fans and detractors. Especially since, per the first teaser, the Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner will do more that roast Trump.

“Traditionally the White House Correspondents’ Association toasts the President of the United States,” Bee explains in her narration. “But this year, a lot of people’s plans changed. So we’re throwing a party to toast the free press — while we still have one.”

Along with archival footage of past Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon and George W. Bush’s own White House Correspondents’ Association dinners, the Full Frontal crew spiced things up with Bee bombing bad jokes while dressed in period garb. What the actual Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner will look like, of course, remains to be seen. Even though Trump won’t be there to stare down Bee himself, however, we’re fairly certain the president and his first 100 days in office won’t be far from her minds.

All proceeds from the television special will go to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
