Seth Rogen Wanted To Be In ‘Preacher’ So Badly That He Created A New Version Starring Himself

It appears that merely rescuing Preacher from development hell and then both executive producing and directing it wasn’t quite enough for Seth Rogen. In an attempt to remedy his lack of screen time, he made a little demo reel for the good folks at AMC, and it is delightful.

Okay, maybe that’s going a little too far, but give the guy credit for having a little ingenuity. If you recall, a high point of Rogen’s directorial debut (alongside partner Evan Goldberg), This is the End, comes in the middle when he, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson and Danny McBride make a trailer for the “sequel” to their stoner smash Pineapple Express using something approximating a Sony handi-cam. Imagine that and you should have a solid idea of how his Preacher demo reel comes off.

There’s Rogen in a fake beard, Rogen using a pretty sorry fake British accent, some mannequins, string, toy cars, plenty of sausage, and really fake looking fake blood. Rogen plays multiple characters in multiple getups with multiple wigs. It’s all very compelling — that is until the end.

Rogen’s recreation gets the split screen treatment right next to scenes from the actual show. Naturally, there’s no comparison. But hey, it just goes to show that a little grit and know-how and old-fashioned creativity… really won’t get you anywhere.

Preacher premieres Sunday at 10 p.m. on AMC.
