The Trailer For ‘Sherlock: The Abominable Bride’ Is Here And It Is Perfect

After much anticipation from Sherlock fans everywhere, the upcoming Victorian-era set Christmas special now has a trailer and an air date. For the first time ever, Sherlock will air on the same day and time in both the UK and the US. It’s about time that fans on this side of the ocean don’t have to wait weeks or months to watch the next installment of the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson.

The one-off episode takes place in Victorian-era London rather than the show’s usual setting of modern day England, which means a whole lot of fancy dress not normally in use. On top of Martin Freeman’s huge mustache (your mileage may vary on liking it or not) there are a wealth of costumes to feast your eyes on in this trailer. From the billowing capes in the chase scenes to Sherlock’s trademark hat finally showing up in the proper houndstooth pattern, it is already clear that the Victorian setting is a choice that is paying off in spades.

Even with the period changes, the Sherlock that fans know and love is still front and center. The trailer shows a off putting, rude, and flippant Holmes deducing clues and confronting suspects. A shift of a few hundred years doesn’t seem to have made his behavior towards friends and colleagues any more palatable. That’s okay, though, as the day that Sherlock turns into a nice and considerate detective is the day that he isn’t Sherlock anymore. Now fans just get to watch him solve a case while in the back of a carriage instead of a taxi.
