Even The ‘Simpsons’ Writer Who Predicted President Trump Thinks We’re Boned

If you stretch the definition of “predicted” about as far as it can go, The Simpsons has “predicted” 9/11, an entire Super Bowl, and Donald Trump running for president. On the show, he wins, possibly over [covers mouth with a beer mug] Hillary Clinton. In real life? Only time will tell, although if he does succeed, time will cease to exist, because the apocalypse will be nigh.

The Daily Beast spoke to the writer of that season 11 episode, Dan Greaney, who claims he had forgotten about it (if only the rest of us were so lucky; EW named “Bart to the Future” the worst episode of the entire series, because they apparently haven’t seen “Lisa Goes Gaga”). The horrifying vision of President Trump is “the sort of thing America would kind of do,” although Greaney admits, “He was a little more lovable back then, before the birther thing and all that.”

And why, according to the show, would a Trump presidency leave the country dead broke? “That’s how his presidency went wrong in our imagination: He overspent, he went nuts!” Greaney said. “Our Trump was a builder.” (Via the Daily Beast)

Unlike SNL‘s Trump, who was a chicken-wing magnate.

You can actually pinpoint the second Amy Poehler’s heart rips in half.
