Dave Chappelle And Chris Rock Team Up On Election Night During ‘SNL’

Dave Chappelle returned to sketch comedy and hit the election right off the bat with a hilarious monologue. But the first sketch put him in the role of an election night realist and he had a special guest from SNL’s past: Chris Rock. The premise puts Chappelle — and later Rock — as the only African American guests at an election night party. As you might remember, it doesn’t go well for most of the folks there.

But the sketch shows something that has been highlighted a lot over the past week, noting how some parts of this country have never stopped experiencing things that people were feeling after Tuesday night. For everybody that couldn’t get up out of bed or didn’t feel like going to work, there are people who dealt with the trouble that a Trump presidency might bring. And Chappelle captures that with some funny bits playing off the stunned guests at the party. It’s especially funny when they talk about it being the most shameful thing America has ever done.

Is it on the nose? Sure. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t funny and proving a point. It might not be as good as his monologue, but it was pretty damn good for a return to sketches.
