‘SNL’ Plays ‘Trumpémon Go’ To Catch All The Minorities At The Republican National Convention

SNL‘s Weekend Update team, Colin Jost and Michael Che, took Floyd from 30 Rock‘s advice, and traveled from New York City to Cleveland this week for the Republican National Convention. (Late Night with Seth Meyers and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee were also there capturing the madness.) After a round of Which of These Old White Dudes Is Mike Pence, Che played a rousing game of Trumpémon Go. It’s a lot like Pokémon Go, except instead of catching Vaporeon, you’re looking for something even rarer: a minority at the RNC. Or as Trump would say, according to Che, “Let’s round up some brown people.”

How did he do? Well, Che — who someone mistook for Jay Pharoah, probably the first of many times that happened — caught an Asian man and a “Cowbro,” so that’s something. Jost also pointed out a baffling picture of Aladdin hanging out with the Genie, but apparently that doesn’t count.

Speaking of Jost: he went back behind the Update desk to interview Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, played by the always delightful Kate McKinnon. RBG (at the RNC!) came out strong, after calling Donald Trump a “faker” with an “ego,” and he responded by saying she’s a “disgrace to the court” and that her mind is “shot.” That sounds like an SNL sketch, but it happened in real life; on Update, Ginsburg, the “wrong 15-lb 200-year-old marionette” to pick a fight with, fired back, “If my mind is shot, then Donald Trump’s mind is shot, stabbed, strangled, put in a vat of wet cement, and dumped into the Gowanus Canal. His mind is sleeping with the fishes.”

Gins-burned.
