Season one of Netflix’s supernatural breakout hit Stranger Things left us with many unanswered questions: Why did Hopper leave Eggo waffles in the woods? What’s the deal with the Upside Down? Does anyone care about Barb? (No, no one does.) SNL added another query to the list: where are Lucas’ parents? We saw Mike and Will’s mom and dad, but not Lucas’. They also gave us an answer: they’re around — they just didn’t want to be involved in any, to quote Tituss from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, “white nonsense.”

Lucas’ parents are played by Leslie Jones and Kenan Thompson, and they have a different idea of who the “monster” on Stranger Things is. Hint: it’s not the Demogorgon, and his name rhymes with Popper. The premise of the sketch is amusing enough — especially Jones and Thompson’s reactions to some of the more ridiculous sounding aspects of the series — but the casting is the highlight. If Millie Bobbie Brown and the Stranger Things stars decide to pull a David Caruso and leave the show while their stock is highest, the Duffer brothers could do worse than to cast Kate McKinnon and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Eleven and Dustin, respectively. He’s already mastered the lisp.
